Sam Stocker
My practice has its roots in painting but for the past seven years has developed in the direction of sculptural constructions, with great attention still paid to colour, surface texture and light.
An on going preoccupation in my work is the domestic environment and its relation to public, architectural spaces. Recent work develops this theme by reconfiguring furniture, extending it structurally and thus giving it a more sculptural, architectural presence, whilst creating interior spaces and views within the construction.
The work involves developing a grammar of construction, and a lot of focus is placed on the interaction of found materials with painted and newly constructed sections.
